I had wished to release Rajkahini this I-day : Srijit

Kolkata, Aug 19 (IBNS) With the near-fatal road mishap in Delhi curbing his movement post receiving national award, director Srijit Mukherjee rues his ambitious Rajkahini, based on India-Bangladesh partition, couldn't be released by Independence day.
"I had wished Rajkahani, which has riveting performances by the entire ensemble cast including Rituparna Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee, be unveiled for the audiences in the month of August," Srijit says during the trailer launch of the film by Sri Venkatesh Films, here on the eve of Independence day.

"However, my movement was crippled and hence the post-production work suffered in my absence," Srijit, a known perfectionist having wielded a teacher's baton against errant cast members during shoots, explains.

"Rajkahini, the film deals with the altering history of India-Bangladesh partition. A history, not of important meetings and agreements, politicians of the Indian National Congress and Muslim League, but of the common people and the marginalized section of the society who bore the brunt of the tragedy," he says.

The trailer of Rajkahini was launched at the stroke of midnight between August 14 and 15, for the film's background that represents the temporal border between two nations, as it led to the birth of India and then (east) Pakistan.

"They even went through physical pain with injuries inflicted on them during shoots. And the wounds as seen on the camera are real and not fake. My entire case looked possessed, once the camera rolled - from Rudraneil (Ghosh) to Parno (Mitra) and everybody. I am proud to have such a huge talent pool in Bengal," Srijit says.
