Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has recently opened up in an interview about how Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD had affected her mentally.

Speaking on Jay Shetty's podcast, Alia shared she was struggling to focus which was "going in and out".

Alia said, "I was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. Recently clinically diagnosed with it so I had a proper backing for me to not just say 'I'm just having an anxious day', it's not just that ADHD and anxiety and I actually seeked it out only because I was actually finding it very hard, my body was heating up in social gatherings and I was like physically responding to it."

"I was also finding it hard to focus on certain things. My focus was going in and out," she added.

Alia first revealed that she was diagnosed with ADHD in some of her interviews for her latest film Jigra last year.

"I frequently zone out in life. I used to zone out since childhood. I used to zone out in the classroom as well as in conversations. I recently got to know from a psychology test that I am quite high in the ADHD spectrum. I have been diagnosed with ADHD," Alia had said speaking to Lallantop.

Speaking on the What Women Want podcast, the actress had said, "I was doing therapy for a couple of years, but now life has been so hectic that I have not been able to do that also. I understand that 'me time' has reduced. Me, being on set is me-time. I do have anxiety. I am clinically diagnosed with anxiety. Every moment for me is my worst-case scenario."

On the work front, Alia is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, co-starring her husband, Ranbir Kapoor, and Vicky Kaushal.

What is ADHD?

ADHD or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is characterised by frequent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

The disorder affects children and can continue in adulthood as well.

The person affected by ADHD finds it difficult to pay attention or continue with a task or sometimes faces challenges to control oneself.

Speaking on the disorder, Dr. Sonal Anand, a psychiatrist, said as quoted by The Indian Express, "People with this condition may experience a range of symptoms such as difficulty in paying attention or focusing on multiple things at a time, following the schedule, being organised, constantly fidgeting, shaking your legs, suddenly talking too much, impulsive behaviour, frequently interrupting others unintentionally, or having no self-control."
