Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khattar promote their film Dhadak in Kolkata

Kolkata, July 14 (IBNS): Bollywood newbies Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar on Friday promoted their upcoming Hindi film Dhadak in Kolkata, returning to the city where a portion of the film was shot.

Janhvi, the daughter of late iconic actress Sridevi, is set to make her acting debut with Dhadak.

The film is a remake of Marathi film Sairat, which released in 2016.

Speaking about the pressure of acting in the remake of Sairat, Ishaan said: "More than pressure what we felt was the responsibility to do justice to such an amazing film like Sairat.

"We were happy to take up the challenge of telling the story the way we wanted to, and never wanted to exploit the commercial viability of Sairat.”

Largely set in Rajasthan, Dhadak is centred on the love story of Parthavi and Madhukar, played by Janhvi and Ishaan respectively.

A part of the film was also shot in Kolkata.

Speaking about her experience of shooting in the city, Janhvi said: "A very important part of the film has been shot here and I was surprised by the enthusiasm shown by the people of Kolkata.

"I am still in awe of the energy that Kolkata has, and I feel extremely happy to be here.”

The film has been directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, Hiroo Yash Johar, and Apoorva Mehta.

Both the actors said working with Khaitan in the film was an "enriching experience".

Ishaan was last seen in acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi's Indian film Beyond the Clouds.

Referring to the experiences of working in two different films, Beyond the Clouds and Dhadak, Ishaan said: “I think there was a lot of adapting. Cinematically both the films come from two very different worlds.

"It involved a lot of adapting to the world of Dhadak and on set me, Shashank and Janhvi were like best friends. So it felt like a big holiday and it was a very rewarding experience.”

Dhadak will hit the big screens on July 20.
