While Bachchan had originally played the lead in the 1978 film 'Don', the remake of the same, featuring SRK in the lead, was helmed by Farhan in 2006.

The sequel to Farhan's 'Don', titled as 'Don 2', starring SRK was released in 2011.

Taking to social media, Farhan on Tuesday gave a hint of roping in a new actor for the third installment of the franchise.

An excerpt of his note reads, "The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired.

"We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr. Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan."
