Mumbai, Sept 22 (IBNS): Assamese filmmaker Rima Das' Village Rockstars has been selected as Indian's official entry for next year's Oscars.

Following the announcement, Das said she's "truly humbled and proud".

The film is yet to have its theatrical release, scheduled for Sept 28.

Premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the film, mostly done by amateur actors, garnered rave reviews from the audience.

It had earlier bagged a National Film Award in the best editing category.

Speaking about her success, Rima told IBNS: "To recognise an independent movie as the best film in India and award it is itself a huge honour. I am not the only one who is witnessing a change, but it’s a change that can be felt by our whole team and other independent directors too. It is very inspiring."

Made in the course of four years, Village Rockstars is about a girl in rural Assam and her dream of owning an electric guitar.
