Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai returns to squad for ICC Cricket WC Qualifier

Kabul, Mar 20 (IBNS): Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai is back in the Afghanistan squad for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

"He will replace Afsar Zazai, who suffered an injury during Afghanistan’s training session yesterday," the Afghanistan Cricket Board said in a statement.

Stanikzai underwent a surgery for appendicitis ahead of the tournament and was advised to rest by the health professionals ruling him out for around 10 days.

Consequently, he missed Afghanistan’s first five games and vice-captain Rashid Khan took charge of the team in his absence.

Wicket-keeper batsman Afsar Zazai who had come into the squad as Stanikzai's replacement played just one game in the tournament, the match against Nepal, before he suffered a hamstring injury during a training session on Sunday.

Afghanistan next face UAE at Old Hararians Sports Club.
