East India (Men & Women) Powerlifting Championship to be held in Howrah

Howrah, Oct 21 (IBNS): The East India (Men & Women) Powerlifting Championship will be held at Puila Kishore Bayam Samity, Howrah in West Bengal, from Oct 22 to 24.

The meet will be organised by West Bengal State Powerlifting Association.

As many as 250 Men and Women from seven states -- Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Manipur, Odisha, Mizoram and West Bengal -- will participate in the three-day tournament.

Jharkhand hosted last year's meet at Dhanbad and won the championship.

Men will compete in 59 kg, 66, 74, 83, 93, 105, 120 and 120 kg and above categories.

Women will fight it out in 47 kg, 52, 59, 63, 73, 84 and 84 kg  and above groups.

P.J. Joseph, Arjuna Awardee and Secretary General, Indian Powerlifting Federation, along with a host of top Bengal Olympic Association officials will be attending the championship in the next three days.
