New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday asked pacer Mohammed Shami to forgive those people who trolled him online after Pakistan beat India in their opening match of the T20 World Cup.

"These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them," he said.

Shami gave away 43 runs for the loss of no wickets in the match.

Shami put up a strong show in the Indian Premier League recently.

Sunday's match against Pakistan was the opening encounter of India in the ongoing showpiece tournament.

India will next face New Zealand.

This is the first time Pakistan beat India in a World Cup match.
