Hockey: NZ beat India in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup clash

Ipoh (Malaysia), Apr 13 (IBNS): In a thrilling match, New Zealand beat India 2-1 in a crucial match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup on Wednesday.

Kiwis grabbed 11 points with the win and completed their pool matches.

Despite a defeat on Wednesday,India can pip them if they beat hosts Malaysia on Friday.

New Zealand took early lead in the game in the 28th minute as Kane Russel converted a penalty corner.

India struggled to put up a strong attack at that point of the game.

It was  in the 36th minute when India scored the equaliser as Mandeep Singh deselect a shot past Kyle Pontifex in the Kiwi goal.

Nick Wilson  scored in the 41st minute to take 2-1 lead for New Zealand.

India will need to win against Malaysia to keep chances of moving to the final of the tournament alive.
