Centurion, Jan 13 (IBNS): India pulled up things on the first day of the Centurion Test on Saturday reducing South Africa to 269/6 as the hosts dominated a large part of the day.

Winning the toss, South Africa straight away chose to bat first and went off to a solid start.

Both the South African openers gave their team the kind of start they were looking for.

Dean Elgar (31) and Aiden Markram (94) have put up 85 runs for the first wicket.

Like Markram, Hashim Amla too missed his century as he went run out at 82.

While South Africa were going strong at one stage, India picked up three quick wickets towards the end of the day's play to comeback into the match.

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis and Keshav Maharaj are at the crease presently at 24 and 10 runs respectively.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the best bowler of the day. Ashwin clinched 3 wickets for 90 runs in 31 overs.

Ishant Sharma picked up one wicket for 31 in 16 overs.

South Africa lead three-match Test series 1-0.
