India hails a hero, congratulates Sakshi on Bronze Medal win

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IBNS): Ending India's medal drought in the ongoing Rio Olympics, Sakshi Malik, a female grappler, contesting in the 58kg freestyle bout, won the Bronze, triggering a wave of happy reactions from the Indian faithfuls who were disappointed so far as they witnessed the exit of Indian athletes from the global sporting carnival.

President Pranab Mukherjee's tweet read, "Hearty Congratulations to #SakshiMalik for winning a medal in women's wrestling in #Rio2016 and doing India proud #PresidentMukherjee"

Congratulating Sakshi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, "Sakshi Malik will inspire several sportspersons in the years to come."

India's External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, "Sakshi Malik - shabash. India is proud of you. #SakshiMalik"

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "Congratulations to Sakshi Malik on winning the first medal for #IND in Rio Olympics. Her victory will inspire millions in India. #Rio2016"

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitly said, "Congrats #SakshiMalik on winning #wrestling bronze at the #Rio2016 She has created history & made the country proud."
India's Sports Minister Vijay Goel tweeted, "Congratulations to Sakshi Malik!!!.Wins First #Olympics #Bronze Medal for #IND in #Rio2016 #Kudos #proud #wrestling"

Calling it a 'thrilling' match, Goel said, "Witnessed Thrilling Match of #wrestling in which Sakshi overcame 5-0 deficit in First Half to win the bout 8-5 in the end.#NeverEverQuit"

Showing grit and dexterity, Indian grappler won the Bronze medal.

Sakshi's medal win will probably go down as one of the best comeback by an Indian athlete as she fought her way back after trailing 0-5 and eventually overcame her opponent, Aisuluu Tynybekova of Kyrgyzstan, 8-5.

She is the first Indian woman wrestler to clinch a Olympic medal.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Congratulations to Sakshi Malik on winning the bronze in women's wrestling at #Rio2016!An incredible win that's made us all proud!"

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kerjiwal said, "Congratulations Sakshi Malik. U have made the whole nation proud."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "Sakshi Malik #Rio2016
Whole of India says with you together 'Jai Hind'"

Indian sporting legend and Olympic ambassador Sachin Tendulkar said, "What great news to wake up to! #SakshiMalik, your resilience at #Rio2016 has made whole of India proud. Many Congratulations!!!"
