IPL 2017: Rising Pune Supergiants beats Mumbai Indians by three runs

Mumbai, Apr 25 (IBNS): Rising Pune Supergiants defeated Mumbai Indians by three runs to register yet another victory in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League, on Monday.

Losing the toss, Pune had to come out to bat in the first half of the match and managed to score 160 for the loss of six wickets.

Rahul Tripathy again played well for RPS and was the top scorer for the side with 45 runs from 31 balls.

Though Pune captain Steve Smith started off well but failed to carry on the momentum, as he lost his wicket to the Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh.

Ben Stokes' 17 (12) and Manoj Tiwari's 22 (13) helped Pune to cross 150 mark.

Karn Sharma who played in place of an injured Krunal Pandya, took couple of wickets for Mumbai.

MI, despite a good start by Parthiv Patel and Jos Buttler, lost too many wickets back to back and had fallen short by three runs at the end.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of MI, fought till the end to make the game closer with an innings of 58 from 39 balls but got out in the last over of the match. 

Ben Stokes had the best bowling figure with 2/21 for RPS.

Even after losing,MI remained at the top of the IPL standings while RPS with the win overtook Kings XI Punjab to move up to the fourth spot.
