Kolkata: Mayor inaugurates 47th All-India Invitation School Rowing Championship at Lake Club

Kolkata, May 5 (IBNS): The 47th All-India Invitation School Rowing Championship, organized by Lake Club, began on a colourful note with city mayor and West Bengal minister for urban development and municipal affairs Firhad Hakim inaugurating the event.

La Martiniere for Girls High School “A”, (Junior Girls), NationalSouth Point High School (Senior Girls) and National High School West Bengal (Senior Boys) winning their races  at Rabindra Sarovar lake here Sunday.

Hakim said it was his love for rowing that had brought him to come to the event despite his busy schedule in election season.

More than 350 participants from 42 schools, both for boys and girls in senior (Class XI and XII) and Junior (Up to Class X) divisions are participating in this prestigious  championship which is being rowed for coxed fours on 500 metre course. The tournament is being conducted in league-cum-knock-out basis.

In the first league race of the day La Martiniere Senior Girls got the better of a fighting St. John Diocesan after keen competition in Group A. The second race saw South Point High School girls from the same group easily defeating Pranabananda High School. In the last race of the inaugural day, National High School West Bengal snuffed away the challenge from Khalsa English High School in Group “A”
