Nottingham, June 6 (IBNS): Mitchell Starc bowled a wonderful spell at the end, where he picked up the crucial wickets of Jason Holder (51) and Carlos  Brathwaite (16), to help Australia beat a spirited West Indies side by 15 runs in a group stage match of the ongoing World Cup here on Thursday.

After bowling out Australia for 288 runs, the bowlers of the defending champion side restricted West Indies at 273 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Starc shined with the ball and picked up five wickets in the match which was slowly moving to the favour of the present World T20 winning team.

Hope remained the top scorer for West Indies with his 68 runs knock.

He hit seven boundaries in the innings.

Pooran (40) made crucial contributions with the willow.

However, it was Holder and his attempt with the bat that had put his squad to the drivers seat, at least for some overs.

Holder smashed seven boundaries and a six.

Starc, however, dashed all hopes with his fiery performance at the end of the innings.

Nurse hit four back-to-back boundaries in the last over of the West Indian innings to reduce the gap between the two sides.
