New Delhi, June 3 (IBNS): Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has urged fans to watch the national team play by visiting stadiums.

He made the appeal via video posted on his social media platform.

"Abuse us, criticise us but please come to watch the Indian national team play," urged the skipper.

He said: "To all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support European clubs with so much passion and sometimes you guys think that the level is not the same, so why do you waste your time?."

This is nothing but a small plea from me to you. Take out a little time and give me a listen. pic.twitter.com/fcOA3qPH8i

He requested football fans in India to visit stadiums to watch the national side contesting on the field.

India has improved their ranking in the FIFA chart.

As per the latest release, India stands at the 97th spot.

Indian football team defeated Chinese Taipei 5-0 on Friday in the opening game of the four-nation tournament in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Sunil's appeal was also supported by another youth icon and cricket captain Virat Kohli.
