New Delhi/IBNS: Air India on Friday (Aug 9) said it is suspending flight operations to and from Israel's Tel Aviv "till further notice" amid the "current situation in parts of Middle East", reports said.

The Tata Group-owned airline had earlier announced that it will suspend all flights to Israel till August 8 after tensions spiked following the assassination of top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

"In view of the current situation in parts of the Middle East, scheduled operation of our flights to and from Tel Aviv are suspended with immediate effect until further notice. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are offering a full refund to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Tel Aviv," Air India said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Air India added that the safety of its guests and crew remains the airline's topmost priority.

According to reports, the extension in suspension of flight operations comes during rising tensions in the Middle East, especially after Iran threatened to strike back at Israel following the assassination of the top Hamas leader in Tehran.

Air India, last week, had announced that it was suspending flight operations to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect till August 8, and the suspension has now been extended indefinitely "until further notice".

"In view of the ongoing situation in parts of the Middle East, we have suspended scheduled operation of our flights to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect up to and including 08 August 2024. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Tel Aviv during this period, with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges. Safety of our guests and crew remains our foremost priority," Air India had said on X.
