September 11 is the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. On this occasion, the US Embassy in Dhaka has called upon all US citizens in Bangladesh to take adequate personal precautions. This announcement was made on the website of the embassy recently.

In addition, the embassy reminded its citizens that Bangladesh is currently under a 'Level 2 Travel Advisory', which means travelers should exercise increased caution for crime, terrorism and kidnapping in Bangladesh.

The embassy has also given several suggestions to protect personal safety. These include: avoiding large crowds, being aware of your surroundings, always carrying a (charged) cell phone and photo ID, trying to leave as much space as possible in traffic or using alternate routes.
