According to an Afghan Ministry of Defence statement, the strikes were carried out in three districts of the province, including the capital city.

It added that 12 militants, including three Taliban commanders, were killed during the raid.

The slain commanders have been identified as Mullah Khaliqdad, Mullah Musafir and Khayal Mohammad, the MoD statement added.

At least four Taliban bases were destroyed during the operations.

The militant group is yet to issue a statement.
