Afghanistan: Gunmen set on fire a middle school in Paktika province

Kabul, Dec 29 (IBNS): Gunmen have set on fire a middle school in the Urgon district of southeastern Paktika province of Afghanistan, media reports said on Saturday.

Shafiullah, principal of the school, told Pajhwok Afghan News that unknown gunmen torched the Naswan Zarabi Middle School of boys and girls on Friday night.

He told the news agency that school building, all textbooks; copies of Quran, documents, desks and chairs were damaged in the fire.

Mohammad Naseem Wajid, provincial education official, confirmed the incident and told the Afghanstan-based news agency at least 900 students, including 400 girls, were studying in the school.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The identities of the gunmen are not known so far.
