Afghanistan: Unknown gunmen kill head of Kabul Ulema Council

Kabul, Nov 24 (IBNS): Unknown gunmen killed the head of Kabul Ulema Council, Mawlawi Abdul Basir Haqqani, in Afghanistan capital's Chehel Sutun area, media reports said on Saturday.

The incident happened at around 2 pm.

Haqqani was found dead on a road in Chehel Sutun area this afternoon, reported Tolo News.

The head of Kabul police media office, Basir Mujahid, confirmed the incident and told the Afghanistan-based news portal that the perpetrator has been arrested by the police following the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.

Kabul has been hit by several terrorism-related attacks in recent years.

At least 50 people were killed as a blast rocked Kabul on Tuesday.

The blast took place inside a very large wedding hall on the airport road in the city.
