Australian Health Minister quits over entitlements scandal

Canberra, Jan 13 (IBNS): Australian Health Minister Sussan Ley has stepped down from her post after purchasing an apartment using taxpayers' money, a BBC report said.

The said property is located in Queensland's Gold Coast.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has reportedly accepted Ley's resignation.

"Australians are entitled to expect that politicians spend taxpayers' money carefully, ensuring at all times that their work expenditure represents an efficient, effective and ethical use of public resources," Turnbull was quoted as saying by the network.

"We should be as careful and as accountable with taxpayer money as we possibly can be,' he added.
