Bangladesh: Dhaka blast leaves seven people dead

Dhaka: At least seven people died as an explosion rocked Moghbazar area in Bangladesh capital Dhaka city on Sunday evening, media reports said.

The explosion left 50 people hurt.

The establishments located close to the blast site were damaged.

The explosion took place near lifestyle retail chain Aarong's Moghbazar showroom and the Fire Service was informed at around 7:35pm, Md Babul, station officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, told Dhaka Tribune.

Mahfuz Ribeng, duty officer at the Fire Service headquarters, told the newspaper 14 units of firefighters had been sent to the spot and they were still working at the scene.

The cause of the blast is unknown.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told Dhaka Tribune: "We also have information about at least 50 people being injured in the incident."

The injured people have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, and other hospitals in the city, police and Fire Service officials working at the scene told the newspaper.
