Bloodbath in South Waziristan: Tribal leader’s sons gunned down in broad daylight

At least two sons of a prominent Pakistani tribal leader were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire in the Kari Kot Bazaar area of Lower South Waziristan, media reports said.

Wana Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Asghar Ali Shah told Dawn News that the deceased were identified as Naveed Wazir and Moeenuddin Wazir, sons of Malik Jamil Wazir.

According to the police, the brothers were travelling on a motorcycle from their home towards Kari Kot Bazaar when they were ambushed by unidentified attackers.

Both died on the spot. A passerby was also injured in the attack and was shifted to a hospital for treatment, officials said.

The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Authorities noted that the tribal elder’s family has been targeted in the past as well. In September 2024, another son of Malik Jamil Wazir was killed in a bomb blast targeting his vehicle, in which the tribal leader was also reportedly injured.
