Brazilian President accused of receiving bribe

| | Jun 27, 2017, at 08:00 pm
Brasilia, Jun 27 (IBNS): Brazil's chief prosecutor has accused country's President Michel Temer of accepting bribes, reports said.

However, Temer has pleaded not guilty and has vowed to prove his innocence.

The prosecutor found Temer guilty of accepting bribes from a giant scandal-hit meat packaging company.

The decision has been passed to a Supreme Court judge, who will now if the case will be sent to the lower house of the country's parliament.

If it is done, the lower house would then vote whether the President will be tried or not.

In recent years, Brazilian politics has been marred by scandals and corruption charges.

Temer's predecessor Dilma Rousseff too faced charges and was impeached.

She faced charges of illegally manipulating the budget, which she denied.
