Canada wants way out of $13 billion armoured vehicle deal with Saudi Arabia, says Justin Trudeau

Ottawa, Dec 17 (IBNS): Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has said his country is looking for a way out of the $13 billion deal of exporting armoured vehicle to Saudi Arabia, media reports said.

In a televised interview, Trudeau said it wouldn't issue a new export permit to Saudi Arabia.

The Prime Minister has been quoted by Financial Post as saying, "We are engaged with the export permits to try and see if there is a way of no longer exporting these vehicles to Saudi Arabia."

Trudeau's comment came amid international outrage over the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate at Istanbul in Turkey.

"The murder of a journalist is absolutely unacceptable and that’s why Canada from the very beginning had been demanding answers and solutions on that," Trudeau told CTV News as quoted by Financial Post.
