China: Five people, including three minors, injured in knife attack in Beijing

At least five people, including three minors, were injured in a stabbing incident in China's capital Beijing city on Monday.

According to reports, the stabbing incident occurred at around 3.20 p.m. local time (3.20 a.m. ET) in the upmarket Haidian district

“The suspect, identified by the last name Tang (a 50-year-old male), was apprehended at the scene,” the Chinese police said in a statement as quoted by CNN, adding that the injured have been taken to hospital and “are not in life-threatening condition.”

The incident occurred close to Zhongguancun No.3 Elementary School.

China has witnessed several stabbing incidents in recent times.

In 2020, 37 children and two adults were injured in a stabbing incident in southern China.

In 2023, at least six people died and one was injured in a knife attack incident which occurred close to a kindergarten in south China.
