Washington/IBNS: United States President Donald Trump on Thursday called Coronavirus pandemic a "bad gift from china" as his country breached 1 lakh-mark in respect to the death toll.

"We have just reached a very sad milestone with the coronavirus pandemic deaths reaching 100,000. To all of the families & friends of those who have passed, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy & love for everything that these great people stood for & represent. God be with you!" Trump wrote in a tweet.

In another tweet, he said: "All over the World the CoronaVirus, a very bad “gift” from China, marches on. Not good!"

This comes as Trump drew criticisms from several sections including his opponents for not being able to contain the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, Trump's probable opponent from the Democratic Party for the upcoming presidential election, released a video message on Wednesday lamenting the loss of lives.

"There are moments in our history so grim, so heart-rending, that they're forever fixed in each of our hearts as shared grief. Today is one of those moments. To those hurting, I'm so sorry for your loss," he said.

The New York Times has reported that the death toll from the pandemic exceeds the number of US military combat fatalities in every conflict since the Korean War.

At present, the US has 1,708,726 coronavirus cases including 100,871 deaths, which is the highest worldwide.
