Donald Trump cancels Singapore summit with North Korea Chairman Kim Jong Un

Washington, May 24 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump on Thursday cancelled the long planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, that was scheduled to be held on June 12 in Singapore.

In a letter addressed to the North Korean leader by the US President, which was released by the White House, Trump said that he cancelled the meeting owing to the 'tremendous anger and open hostility' in Jong Un's recent statement.

Trump said it is inappropriate to hold the meeting at this time.

"Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place," the US President stated in the letter.

Trump also issued a subtle warning to North Korea over nuclear power.

"You talk about nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used," he said.

Stating that he hopes to meet Jong Un someday, Trump said: "If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write."
