Washington/IBNS: In a desperate act, Donal Trump supporters, who are in Washington for rallies alleging fraud in US presidential elections on a day when Congress met to certify Joe Biden's victory, broke into the Capitol building.

Washington Post reported that a large number of protesters gathered at the US Capitol. They pushed away the police and attempted to make their way inside.  Many of them managed to breach the security and enter the building where senators were debating the certification of the presidential election.

The House doors were closed and one person was shot inside the U.S. Capitol after a mob pushed past the security personnel and barged into the building, according to two people with knowledge of the incident, the report stating the latest developments said.

The Senate stopped the proceedings after an aide of Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) interrupted him informing that the agitators were inside the building, it added.

In a notification, U.S. Capitol Police said no entry or exit is permitted in the buildings within the Capitol Complex. “Stay away from exterior windows, doors. If outside, seek cover,” police said, the report added.

A citywide curfew has been imposed amid the violent chaos and no one will be allowed to move out from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

Tear gas shell were fired to control the throngs of pro-Trump supporters who broke barricades and stormed inside the Senate chamber.

Several lawmakers related terrifying scenes in their Twitter posts alleging Trump of instigating his supporters.

President Trump, who reportedly exhorted his supporters to gather on the Ellipse to march to the U.S. Capitol to demand that Congress overturn the election, tweeted an appeal to “stay peaceful” as several supporters broke into the Capitol building.
