Dozens killed as US Embassy opens in Jerusalem

Jerusalem, May 14 (IBNS): Violence over the opening of US embassy in Jerusalem city has left 41 people killed along the border fence between Israel and Gaza, media reports said.

At least 41 people have been killed during clashes Monday along the border fence between Israel and Gaza, CNN reported quoting the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the embassy has been opened in Jerusalem.

Senior White House advisers Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump's daughter, and her husband Jared Kushner, have arrived in Jerusalem for the opening of the embassy.

US President Donald Trump tweeted: "Big day for Israel. Congratulations!."

Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu appreciated and thanked Trump over the opening of the embassy.

He tweeted: "Thank you, President Trump, for having the courage to keep your promises. Thank you, President Trump for making the alliance between Israel and the United States stronger than ever @realDonaldTrump."

While Israel is in a jolly mood over the opening of the new US embassy in its capital city Jerusalem, thousands of Palestinians have gathered to protest the move, along the Gaza Strip.

Since US President Donald Trump's nod to approve Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, against the wishes of majority of other countries and the United Nations, at least 40  Palestinians have been gunned down by Israeli forces during protests at the border.

Trump decision has also brought in contrasting views from Israel and Palestine.

While Israel's Prime Minister has thanked Trump for keeping the latter's word and moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has remarked the move as the slap of the century.

According to reports, a new interim embassy will be functional from Monday, inside the existing US consulate building in Jerusalem.

Later, a new and bigger space will be scouted and the embassy will be moved there.
