Ex-Maldives Prez denied bail, manhandled outside court
Male, Feb 23 (IBNS): A day after being arrested by the Maldives police, former President Mohamed Nasheed was on Tuesday denied bail by the court.
He was also manhandled by policemen and was literally dragged into the court building in the Maldives capital Male.
Nasheed fell to the ground after he was pushed by policemen clad in riot gear when he stopped outside the Criminal Court to speak to reporters gathered there, TV footage showed.
According to reports, Nasheed was arrested on terror charges.
"He is accused of illegally ordering the detention of a senior judge while in office in January 2012," BBC reported.
He was detained in 2013 order to arrest Judge Abdullah Mohamed.
Abdulla Yameen had defeated him in the presidential election.
