Islamabad/IBNS: A French woman and her five children have been rescued in Pakistan after allegedly being held captive by her husband for more than a decade, media reports said.

The woman, identified as 54-year-old Sylvie Yasmina, and her children were reportedly confined for 12 years in Bara town in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after the family moved from Australia to Pakistan in 2014.

Husband arrested

Police have arrested Yasmina's husband, a Pakistani national, in connection with the case.

Following their rescue, Yasmina and her children were shifted to a shelter in Peshawar, where authorities are providing assistance and protection.

Child's complaint exposes ordeal

The case came to light when one of Yasmina's sons managed to sneak out of the house and approach the police with a complaint.

Acting on the information, police conducted a rescue operation and recovered the family from what was described as a dilapidated room.

According to reports, the victims were found with visible bruises and signs of physical abuse.

Woman alleges years of isolation

Yasmina told investigators that she was not allowed to interact with anyone outside the household during the years she was allegedly held captive.

She further alleged that her children were deprived of education.

According to her account, the family's two eldest children missed out on their schooling, while the three younger children were never enrolled in any educational institution.

Family plans return to France

After their rescue, the family is now reportedly making arrangements to return to France.
