At least three members of the Ahmadiyya community sustained bullet injuries after unidentified gunmen opened fire outside a place of worship in Pakistan's Chenab Nagar, media reports said.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Chenab Nagar police, the incident took place at around 9 p.m. when three volunteers were performing security duties outside the Al Aqsa place of worship, Dawn reported.

Police told the newspaper that a bearded young man riding a motorcycle stopped near the entrance of the worship site, pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the volunteers before fleeing the scene.

The injured individuals were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said the condition of one of the victims remains critical.

Following the attack, Chenab Nagar Police registered a case against an unidentified suspect under Section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7(1)(c) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
