Moscow, May 15 (Sputnik/UNI) Militants attacked nine settlements in the Syrian provinces of Latakia and Hama over the past 24 hours, the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation said on Tuesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, militants shelled ... settlements in Latakia province and ... Hama province," Maj. Gen. Viktor Kupchishin, the head of the center, said at a briefing, listing all nine settlements.

He also noted that, as of Monday, 57,944 people who avoided military duty were granted amnesty under an order issued by Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Russia, alongside Turkey and Iran, is a guarantor of the ceasefire regime in Syria. Moscow has also been assisting Damascus through supporting the struggle against terrorist groups, providing humanitarian aid to local residents and facilitating the return of refugees.
