Nawaz Sharif handed over 10 years jail term by Pakistan court
Islamabad, July 6 (IBNS): A Pakistani court on Friday sentenced for ten years former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, announcing the verdict in the Avenfield corruption reference related to luxury flats in London, filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
According to reports, he has been handed over the jail term by an NAB court for owning assets beyond income and 1 year for not cooperating with NAB.
"The sentences will run concurrently so he will serve 10 years in jail," Dawn News reported.
The Prime Minster's daughter Maryam Nawaz has been awarded 7 years of jail for abetment and 1 year for non-cooperation.
"Son-in-law Captain Safdar has been given 1 year jail time for also not cooperating with NAB," reported the newspaper.
Apart from the jail term, Nawaz has been handed a fine of 8 million pounds.
The court has handed over 2m pounds fine by the court.
According to DawnNewsTV, the Sharif family, along with former finance minister Ishaq Dar, are gathered at the Avenfield flats in London to watch the verdict unfold live.
Nawaz, Maryam, Hassan, and Hussain are currently in London.
Captain Safdar is currently present in the country but remained absent from the court.
