Helsinki (Xinhua/UNI) A person was shot dead in the city of Lahti, southern Finland on Sunday, said the police.

The newspaper Helsingin Sanomat later quoted police as saying that the incident took place out in the open, not inside a building.

Local paper Etela-Suomen Sanomat reported that an apartment building was cordoned off by the police.

The police said a suspect was apprehended, but did not give any information about the victim or the suspect.

The police said it would not provide further details until Monday.
