Peshawar: The death toll due to the blast which took place inside a mosque in Pakistan's Peshawar city has touched 96, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to reports, more bodies have been recovered from the site of the attack.

The mosque is located in Peshawar’s Red Zone area.

The outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, Dawn News reported.

It later distanced itself from it but sources earlier indicated to the newspaper  that it might have been the handiwork of some local faction of the outlawed group.

Mehsud, while confirming the death toll to Dawn News, said that the rescue and search operation at the blast site has been completed, after almost 24 hours.
