Pakistan: Local JUI leader hurt in bomb blast during Friday prayer inside mosque

A local Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI) leader and three others were injured after a bomb blast ripped through a mosque in Pakistan's  South Waziristan area on Friday during prayers.

The injured local JUI leader was identified as Abdullah Nadeem.

District Police Officer Asif Bahader told Dawn News that an improvised explosive device (IED) blast occurred at 1:45 pm at Maulana Abdul Aziz Mosque on Azam Warsak Bypass Road, with the device planted in the mosque’s pulpit.

“In the explosion, Abdullah Nadeem, the district chief of JUI, was seriously wounded,” he said.

“Three others, also belonging to the JUI, have sustained minor injuries," he said.

The other injured people were identified as Rehmanullah, Mullah Noor, and Shah Behran.

The injured people were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital for immediate medical assistance.

The blast occurred at a time when the Islam majority nation is following the holy month of Ramzan.

JUI-S Chief Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq's Death

The fresh blast incident occurred just days after Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Samiul Haq (JUI-S) chief Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq was among three people who died in a blast inside the Akora Khattak’s Darul Uloom Haqqania in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region.

The blast reportedly occurred inside the seminary after Friday prayers.

BLA Train Hijack

In a separate incident, Jaffar Express was hijacked by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) terrorist organization in Sibbi.

The train was carrying over 400 passengers.

After a 30-hour seige, the Pakistani security forces claimed 33 terrorists were killed and all hostages were released.

Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed to Ary News that all 33 terrorists involved in the attack on the Jaffer Express were killed, while 21 passengers and 4 FC personnel lost their lives.

The relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan has hit a new low point amid frequent border skirmishes since Taliban took control over Kabul in 2021.

Pakistan has repeatedly asked  Afghanistan to take action against the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group for using Afghan soil to launch attacks in Pakistan. Kabul has rejected Pakistan's claims.

Pakistan has witnessed a spike in terror activities in recent times, particularly in Khyber Paktunkhwa and Balochistan.
