Pakistan: More than 200 inmates in Quetta suffer from skin disease

More than 200 inmates at the Quetta District Jail in Pakistan are suffering from skin disease, raising doubts about the condition of prisons in the cash-strapped South Asian nation.

Balochistan government sources confirmed the outbreak on Thursday to The Express Tribune, linking it to overcrowding, poor hygiene, and substandard food quality.

Health department officials have verified the outbreak and stressed the urgent need for improved living conditions and medical care within the facility, the newspaper reported.

The severely infected patients have been shifted to Bolan Medical Complex and Civil Hospital Quetta.

Quetta Deputy Commissioner Saad Bin Asad has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

He directed prisoner authorities to ensure the prisoners were treated properly.
