Samarkand to adopt Declaration of Human Rights

Samarkand, Nov 17 (iBNS) The historic Uzbek city of Samarkand will host Asian Forum on Human Rights on Nov 22-23.

The forum is expected to be attended by representatives of the UN and other international organizations, heads of institutions engaged in human rights protection in the Asian continent, legal scholars and others.

According to the National Human Rights Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan, participants, divided into sessions, will conduct a dialogue on relevant themes.

They will consider the declaration norms, universality of economic, social, cultural, civil rights, their interrelation, achievements and problems in the sphere of fulfilling human rights obligations.

The role of the executive, representative and legislative power, the court and national human rights institutions in human rights protection and achieving Sustainable Development Goals will be discussed.

Following the Asian Forum, it is planned to adopt Samarkand Declaration of Human Rights. It provides for creation of an effective system for observance and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms by the state in accordance with international acts.

Within the framework of the Asian Forum, heads of national human rights institutions of Central Asia will discuss the situation in their country regarding human rights, cooperation areas between national human rights institutions.

Following the forum, it is also planned to adopt in Tashkent a joint statement of national human rights institutions in Central Asia.
