Colombo, May 18 (IBNS): The Sri Lankan police have arrested a school principal and a teacher for their alleged links to the local Islamist extremist group National Thawheed Jamaath (NTJ), media reports said on Saturday.

The group has been blamed by the country's government to be behind the Easter Sunday attacks in the Island Nation which left 253 people killed.

"One of the suspects is a 56-year-old principal of a school at Weerasole while the other is a 47-year-old teacher of a school in Ataweerawewa," reported Daily Mirror newspaper of Sri Lanka.

They were arrested on information received by the Western Province Intelligence Division, the newspaper further reported.

On Easter Sunday, eight blasts had rocked Sri Lanka, leaving the nation shocked.

The Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the incident.
