UAE grounds Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets

Dubai, Mar 13 (Xinhua) The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday decided to ground Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets in the country as of Wednesday until further notice.

The GCAA's decision comes following the Ethiopian Airways plane crash shortly after takeoff on Sunday, killing all 157 people on board a 737 MAX 8, according to WAM news agency.

It said the ban was a precautionary measure aimed at protecting public safety in the air and on the ground.

The GCAA will continue monitoring and re-assessing the situation as more information is obtained about the accident.
