Unknown gunmen open fire at residence of Justice Ijazul Ahsan in Lahore

Lahore, Apr 15 (IBNS): In two separate attacks, unknown gunmen opened fire at the residence of Justice Ijazul Ahsan in Lahore's Model Town on Sunday, media reports said.

According to local media reports, no casualty has been reported so far.

"No casualties were reported in the attacks, one of which took place around 10:45pm on Saturday and the other at 9:10am on Sunday," reported Dawn News.

"Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar visited the residence of Justice Ahsan and called the Punjab inspector general to probe the incidents," reported the newspaper.

Incidentally, Ahsan was one of the members in the five-member bench that had delivered its verdict in the high-profile Panamagate case last year.

The verdict had led to the disqualification of ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif.

According to Dawn News, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered immediate arrests of those who were linked in the attack.

He has also directed the Punjab inspector general (IG) to submit report on the incident.

"This is a highly condemnable incident. We are trying our best to arrest the attackers and a thorough investigation is underway," Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmad Khan told DawnNewsTV.

PTI chief Imran Khan has condemned the incident.

"Strongly condemn the firing at Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan's house. These Sicilian-mafia-like tactics to pressurise senior judiciary are unacceptable in any democracy. PTI stands firmly behind the Judiciary & Rule of Law & this is one reason behind our 29th April Minar-i-Pakistan jalsa," the cricketer-turned-politician tweeted.
