Mumbai, Nov 2 (IBNS): Fans of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter on Friday to greet the actor as he turned a year older.

The 'Baadshah' of Bollywood turned 53 on Friday.

Hashtags like #HappyBirthdaySRK, #HappyBirthdayShahRukKhan and #KingKhan were the top trending topics on Twitter India.

The actor too thanked his fans for their messages.

"Fed cake to wife...Met my family of fans outside Mannat...now playing Mono Deal with my lil girl gang! Having a Happy Birthday. Thank u all...for this amazing love," he said.

Khan, who had started his acting career in television, completed 25 years in Bollywood in 2017.

Popularly known as King Khan by his fans, the actor is still worshipped and loved for his onscreen chemistry as "Raj" with "Simran" played by Kajol in the 1995 release Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which later assumed a cult status and is celebrated as one of the best romantic movies to have come out of Bollywood.

The film was such a blockbuster that it ran in Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre for a historic 1000 weeks till 2015.

The 52-year old actor-producer has acted in more than 80 films with several movies that had become a huge success not just in his career but also in the Indian cinema history.

His first television series was Fauji in 1989 followed by Circus the same year.

Though initially he was not open to acting in films, he changed his mind later and made his silverscreen debut with Deewana in 1992, where he acted opposite the late Divya Bharti and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

He is also one of the few stars to have played the role of antagonists in Bollywood films after enjoying a stint as the lead character, thus setting a trend for other actors to follow. Khan gained fame as an anti-hero in films like Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam.

However, he excelled in the romantic genre. With films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Pardes, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Yes Boss, Dil To Pagal Hai, Mohabbatein he set the screen on fire.

Later, the senior actor of Bollywood ventured into various types of films with Chak De! India, Devdas, Paheli, Fan, My Name Is Khan and Dear Zindagi, where he largely played character roles.

Apart from acting, Khan has also donned the hat of a successful producer, setting up his own company Red Chillies Entertainment. The latest film under his production is Ittefaq, releasing on November 3.

The Dilwale actor also hosted a number of game shows including Kaun Banega Crorepati, generally associated with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, and Ted Talk.

Apart from acting, producing and hosting shows, Khan is also a sports enthusiast.  As a businessman, he owns three franchise-based cricket teams in India, the Caribbean and South Africa.

Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League, Tribago Knight Riders in Caribbean Premier League and Cape Town Knight Riders in South Africa's T20 League are the three teams he owns..
