Mumbai, Jan 27 (IBNS): Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar, who is known for her performance in several Bollywood movies and for her item numbers, on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Isha made the move of joining politics at a time when the nation is just months away from voting to elect a new Parliament.

According to reports, she joined the ruling party in the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Known for her bold performance in 2004 released movie Girlfriend, Isha had made her Bollywood debut in 2002 with an item song in Ram Gopal Varma's Company.

In her career, she had also worked in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and a few Marathi films.

Before Isha, Moushumi Chatterjee joined BJP:

Earlier this month, Moushumi Chatterjee, another veteran Bollywood actress, had also joined the BJP.

Chatterjee, who had a stint with the Congress in the past, made her acting debut with Bengali film Balika Badhu way back in 1967.

She was a prominent face in Bengali film industry for decades. Her last Bengali film was Goynar Baksho, which released in 2013. Chatterjee also acted in a number of Hindi films.

Before her political journey with the BJP, which is aiming to win 22 out of 42 seats in West Bengal in the forthcoming General Elections, Chatterjee had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections from Kolkata north-east constituency as a Congress candidate back in 2004.
