Irrfan Khan hones the turban for the first time in Qissa

Mumbai, Feb 10 (IBNS): For the first time in his career, the versatile and highly acclaimed actor, Irrfan Khan, will be seen in the lead role of a Punjabi movie 'Qissa, directed by Anup Singh and Co-produced by NFDC.

When asked about his role in Qissa, he said that the film is really close to his heart as the role is quite different. The film intricately deals with the human psychology of wanting a male heir and how he finds truth in his own lies. These roles have always brought the best out of him and the prolific actor enjoys it immensely. The terrific actor is known for his impeccable acting skills andalso for taking up challenging roles.

The actor already has an enviable list of films both international and national, which have given him recognition and fame though he always has stayed humble and true to his passion. His performances in films like Paan Singh Tomar, Life of Pi, Lunchbox, and more are still talked about. Now, ‘Qissa’ has witnessed the genius at work portraying the character with élan.

‘Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost’ is the story of Umber Singh played by Irrfan Khan who is forced to forge a new life for his family post-independence in 1947.  It stars Irrfan Khan, Tisca Chopra, Tillotama Shome, Rasika Duggal, Faezeh Jalali and Sonia Bindra. The Punjabi-language film has been co-produced by the National Film Development Corporation (India), Heimat film, France’s Cine-Sud and the Dutch production house Augustus Film.

Post Qissa’s successful global release across Germany, France and Netherlands and international acclaim garnered in various film festivals across the world, Qissa shall now be released by NFDC in select theatres across key cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai and Kolkata on February 20, 2015, the same day that it will be available to buy on DVD or on NFDC’s newly launched Video-on-Demand site www.cinemasofindia.com.
