Mumbai/IBNS: In what could depress his fans, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan expressed his desire to bid adieu to his prolonged, illustrious career.

Bachchan wrote in his blog as quoted by India Today, "Amitabh wrote on his personal blog, "thank you all those stop overs on the way here .. a ride of almost 12 hours by car on roads under repair and roads of great smoothness and finesse .. .. another new environ and another readjustment to room and its accoutrements.."

"I must retire .. the head is thinking something else and the fingers another .. its a message.." he added.

Bachchan, who made his film debut as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's Bhuvan Shome in 1969, completed 50 years in the Hindi film industry this year.

The acting legend made his acting debut with Saat Hindustani.

He quickly rose to fame and established himself as an "angry young man" with films like Zanjeer, Shokay, Deewar, Don.

Some of his other notable films in that period were Anand, Coolie.

In recent times, Bachchan transformed himself and reached new a new height with films like Black, Paa, Piku, Pink.

The superstar of late was seen suffering due to his ill health.

Due to illness, Bachchan earlier this month had missed the inaugural ceremony of the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
