Indian actress Sheena Chohan awarded for empowering women

Mumbai/IBNS: Sheena Chohan, an Indian actress who has played the lead in films with National Award-Winning directors, was awarded the Woman Super Achiever Award at the World Women’s Leadership conference at the Taj, Land’s End, Mumbai, for her work empowering countless women by educating them on their human rights and creating awareness.

Sheena was the first Indian to be awarded the Human Rights Hero Award at the United Nations in New York last year where she used that internationally famous platform to call for mandatory human rights education in South Asia.

Sheena has been the South Asian Ambassador for United for Human Rights (www.humanrights.com), the world’s largest human rights education program, for the last decade. Sheena has travelled the world empowering women with their human rights, including being responsible for 36 universities accepting human rights into their curriculums.

The World Women’s Leadership Conference aims to:

  Support the women empowerment strategy to activate and accelerate the role of working women in various institutions through various initiatives.

Highlight the achievements of women leaders and appraise their success in regional and global leadership.

Recognize the high level achievements of women as leaders, executives, and decision makers.

Sheena was presented the award by famed humanitarian Rubina Akhtar Hasan Rizvi.

Sheena recently delivered a Ted Talk on the Power of Art (including film), her latest feature film is being submitted to international film festivals, she performed in a theatre production with Ila Arun at The Royal Opera House Mumbai and Prithvi Theatre and is currently preparing to shoot her web series directed by National Award and Filmfare Award Winning Director, Nagesh Kukunoor.
