Payal Ghosh takes u-turn hours after courtroom apology to Richa Chadha in defamation case
Mumbai/IBNS: Within hours of tendering an apology to actor Richa Chadha during the hearing of a defamation case on Wednesday in connection with her remark in a Telugu TV show, actor Payal Ghosh took a u-turn and said she was not apologising to anyone.
During the hearing of the case in Bombay High Court, Ghosh's lawyer said she was ready to apologise unconditionally for her comments that allegedly indicated that Rich Chadha and some other actors offered sexual favours to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. She had also accused that Kashyap raped her.
Payal Ghosh, who seemed to have changed her mind later, tweeted: "I hv nothing to do wd Ms Chadda. We as women hv got 2stand wd each other, shoulder to shoulder.I don’t want any unintentional harrasment to her or me on this matter. My fight 4justice is against only Mr. Kashyap &I want 2focus solely on dt ryt now.Lets make d world c his true face."
“I am not apologizing to anyone. I have not wronged nor have I given a wrong statement about anyone. I just said what @anuragkashyap72 told me. #SorryNotSorry,” she added.
When someone tweeted “So (name redacted) ‘innocently’ slandered @RichaChadha?", she replied, “No (name redacted) did not defame her.. it was what Mr. Kashyap said about her, still want to blow It out of proportion, GIRL?”
Richa Chadha did not react to the statement but simply retweeted it, writing "update".
In an interview, Ghosh had claimed that Anurag Kashyap had said actors like Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Mahie Gill got work from him in return of sexual favours and were "just a call away".
During the hearing of defamation case filed by Richa Chadha on Wednesday, Ghosh's lawyer Nitin Satpute said in the court his client had made the remarks innocently and was a big follower of Chadha, adding that she regretted her comments, media reports said.
After the apology, Chadha had withdrawn the Rs 1.1 crore defamation case against Ghosh.
