I do not run away from past: Sunny Leone

Sunny Leone has been in news ever since she entered Bigg Boss in 2011. The adult star made her Bollywood debut with Jism 2 and has come a long way since then. Her film, Ek Paheli Leela, releases soon and the actress sounds upbeat as she speaks to TWF correspondent Gaurav Sharma

It’s more than three years now that you are in Bollywood. How has the journey been?

(Smiles) It has definitely been a very interesting phase of my career. India and Bollywood was new to me when I came here four years ago. There weren’t too many people I knew but I am happy that people accepted me and I managed to attract the attention of the filmmakers here. I even didn’t know much about Bollywood and I am yet to learn a lot but I am taking active interest and learning things. I am really enjoying my Bollywood journey.

Though you have done quite a few Hindi films  a section of the Indian audience still identify with you as an adult star?

I know that’s going to stay for some time. I did films in the US which were for a particular audience and that was what my identity was then. That’s a different industry…the adult entertainment industry, which I belonged to but now I am doing Hindi films, which is my focus right now. I am not among the ones who would run away from my past or hesitate to recognise the work I did. I have always had this bold attitude and have taken every decision consciously. At the same I have also got immense love and affection from the people who have seen my work in Bollywood. I hope they remember me for my work.

You definitely do have a huge fan following in Bollywood now.

(Smiles) Oh yes, it couldn’t have been better. I am really happy and excited about that because I couldn’t have imagined this even a couple of years ago. I was known as an adult star. People knew me but the exposure that Bollywood has given me is unimaginable. Today people recognise me when I get down from my car or I am at a mall. Bollywood has given me a lot of love.

You look stunning in the promos of your upcoming film Ek Paheli Leela.

Yes, the response so far has been good and I hope the audience like the film too and not just the promos.

The title of the film gives an impression that the film is a thriller.

It’s a musical thriller. It’s a very new team, which has worked on the film and I am happy that people have already started taking about it. Even the music is being talked-about a lot. I won’t tell much about the film’s story because that will kill the suspense element. What I can say is that it’s a very well made film and it’s a thriller people will enjoy because filmmaker Bobby Khan has tried to make it look as stylish and thrilling as he can.

You also have a few steamy scenes with the film’s lead, Rajnish Duggal.

Yes, that’s part of the script. I know that too will be a talked about thing but it a thing that the story and script demanded. It wasn’t an easy shot to be picturised as we were shooting in the night. We gave in a lot of effort and it has been brilliantly choreographed.

You have always been lucky with the music of your films…

Yes, I feel that’s going to continue with this film too as the music has already been a hit. Doli Taro is one of the best songs though it was a very difficult to picturise it. The steps were difficult and I had to give multiple retakes. However, I am really happy with the end product and I really love watching myself in the video whenever it goes on air.

What kind of films do you want to do?

I am very new and can’t be too choosy. At the same time every actor wants to do films where he or she gets a scope to perform. I too want to do films and roles for which people will remember me. I know people still relate to me as an adult star and that’s the reason I am trying to do films, where I can prove my acting abilities.

So, what are your plans now? Do you want to continue doing films in Bollywood?

Of course, I am here to stay. I am enjoying every bit of Bollywood and I am lucky that some very good films are being offered to me. It’s difficult for me to be shuttling between US and India and given that I am getting good offers and still exploring Bollywood, plans are to work here.
